InterContinental Chicago Installs Wireless Energy Management
September 9, 2003
NIANTIC, CT - INNCOM International is pleased to announce the company is currently installing its guestroom energy management and wireless communication technology at the Hotel InterContinental Chicago. Executives at the 800-room property selected the wireless INNCOM system to harness control over their guestroom energy costs while also benefiting from an easy to install energy management solution.
When the system is up and running, Mr. Ludwig Scherdel, Senior Vice President of Technical Services with the InterContinental Chicago, expects to save up to 15% of current guestroom energy costs.
"One of the key reasons we are installing the INNCOM wireless energy management solution is our ability to diagnose the individual performance of the guestroom, to improve guest satisfaction and of course to save energy as well," said Scherdel.
The INNCOM system provided the hotel with a cost effective digital HVAC control system that will be networked to a central computer. It also provides lighting control with Infrared signal and communication technology. The INNCOM system utilizes existing telephone wires to transmit control signals between the guestroom and central computer.
"When the decision makers at the InterContinental Chicago were looking to upgrade technology for this historic landmark they wanted a `wow' factor for the guest," said Bill Russell, Vice President, INNCOM international. "They found what they were looking for with the wireless system integration and enhanced guest services provided by INNCOM."
Once in the room, an Infrared signal communicates between the thermostat, light fixtures, doorbell, and guest services plate. Guestroom control functions include, pre-heating/cooling rooms, unoccupied setback, vacant setback capabilities, and on/off lighting control.
The INNCOM system has allowed a very non-disruptive installation with between five and 15 rooms getting the system everyday. Use of hardwiring would have been impossible due to concrete walls, custom wood moldings, and exclusive wall coverings throughout the guest rooms in this historic property.
