In the hospitality industry, one cannot emphasize guest comfort enough. And a crucial component of guest comfort is thermal comfort, which ASHRAE describes as being determined by two human factors, clothing and activity, and four environmental factors, including temperature and humidity.
While you can't control your guests' clothing and activity levels, INNCOM has developed proven technology to address the issues of temperature and humidity.
INNCOM e4™ Smart Digital Thermostats are direct digital control (DDC) thermostats for precise temperature control. A DDC thermostat allows the hotel to set a target temperature range and a guest to select a specific target temperature. Unlike mechanical thermostats, a digital thermostat will not over-shoot the target temperature and swing between heating and cooling as it attempts to correct itself.
In addition to precise temperature control, the e4 is an expandable, smart device. "Smart" means it contains programmable software that enables it to perform multiple tasks and "expandable" means it can be upgraded with other applications and hardware to execute additional tasks. For example, the e4 can be easily expanded to include energy management with the addition of a door switch, an on-board passive infrared (PIR) sensor, and an energy management system (EMS) software upgrade. With this upgrade, the temperature in the guestroom will be at a precise and comfortable level when the guest is present, but will subtly shift to an energy-conserving temperature while the guest is away. When the guest returns, the system instantly and imperceptibly reestablishes the precise target temperature, so that the guest remains perfectly comfortable without ever realizing that energy and money have just been saved.
Lower levels of humidity are generally associated with greater human comfort, especially in warm climates or during the hot season.
However, humidity is not just a comfort issue. High humidity causes mold, mildew, and other biological growth, which in turn can lead to odors, expensive property rot and health problems. In environments in which mold and mildew are a potential problem, humidity control is a smart expansion option that can protect guests' health, as well as create enormous cost savings.
The e4™ Smart Digital Thermostat can be expanded to actuate humidity control algorithms that control the rate of air refreshing cycles in the guestroom and suppress the growth of mold, mildew, and other humidity-caused biological growth. And, because the e4 is flexible, it can also implement all the capabilities already built into your HVAC equipment.
